Yohanna Katanacho in Israel/Palestine

Dear Friends,

This week, please pray with us for Dr. Yohanna Katanacho in Israel/Palestine.

The Holy Land has long endured unrest, discord, and violence – even when Jesus walked the earth. After the horrors of WWII, the State of Israel was formed in 1948. Subsequent conflicts between Jews and Arabs culminated in Israeli occupation of territories in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Golan Heights. On October 7, 2023, Hamas-led militants launched a series of attacks that killed 1,200 Israelis and foreigners and abducted another 252 as hostages. The ensuing war between Israel and Hamas has since killed over 35,000 Palestinians and thrust 2.3 million displaced Gazans into famine. Please intercede with us for our siblings in Christ and neighbors in Israel/Palestine. Pray for violence to cease, safety and provision for vulnerable people, healing and hope for all who have lost loved ones and livelihoods, and humane negotiations toward justice and peace.

His wife Dina serves as the Director of the Arab Israeli Bible Society. They have three sons: Immanuel, Jonathan, and Chris.

Yohanna shares the following message:

I am a Palestinian citizen of Israel. I serve among 14 million people (7 million Jews and 7 million Palestinians). They live between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea but under different political systems. Palestinians dwell under various political realities in the Palestinian Authority areas (A, B, & C), East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and Israel proper. In Israel proper, or the land that was taken by Israel in 1948, there are two million Palestinians who have Israeli citizenship. I am one of them.

My Ministry

I am the Academic Dean of Nazareth Evangelical College. We have students from different Arabic countries, and we train leaders to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

Recently, I published a book, Introduction to the Old Testament, and a booklet, Is Jesus God. The first is used as a textbook and the second as an evangelistic tool for reaching out to Muslims. Under the supervision of the Arab Israeli Bible Society, I am also involved in translating the New Testament to spoken Galilean Arabic. We have finished the four Gospels and the Book of Acts. It is supposed to reach millions of people and help them to understand the Bible.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for the spread of peace, love, and justice among both Palestinians and Jews in Israel/Palestine.

Pray for the Church in Israel/Palestine, that we may carry out a powerful mission despite all the challenges.

Pray for my ministries and my family as we continue to spread divine love in a country that is marked by hatred in so many different ways.

Thank you,

Yohanna Katanacho
