Honoring a Legacy & Investing in the Future of Theological Education
When the question of who is counted among the guiding lights of African theology arises, one name is mentioned consistently: Dr. Tite Tiénou. We are honored by his leadership with Scholar Leaders, serving on our board for nearly 25 years. Click on the button below to read a booklet outlining the scholarship fund in honor of Tite and Marie and in commitment to their vision for serving the global Church.
“I would hope they say, ‘He encouraged us to continue . . . and he helped us get a sense of dignity so that we can fulfill in our lifetime what God has put in front of us’.”

When the Tiénou Fund meets its total goal, it will produce 8 new scholars, provide 20 years of mentorship and professional training, send around 22,000 academic texts to women scholars, and support around 20 missional projects developed by these global leaders. The goal of the Fund is $1,000,000 with $250,000 invested in each segment.

Second Annual PhD Scholarship
The second segment of $250,000 funds another PhD scholarship of $25,000 per year for 20 years.
Advancing the Women’s Peer Leader Forum (WPLF)
When the third incremement is met, it will nurture a total of four WPLF cohorts of 8-10 women, each cohort meeting for five years.

The final segment enables distribution of around 1,000 books per year for 20 years to members of the WPLF, as well as microgrants for 1-2 high-impact initiatives per year from this group.

Faith on the Road Podcast
In our season finale, Christopher M. Hays and Evan Hunter talk with premier African theologian Dr. Tite Tiénou about the future of theological education. Drawing from decades of leadership and ministry across Africa and North America, Dr. Tiénou reflects on what first drew him to theology, the mentors who shaped his vision, and the challenges theological institutions face today.
“If we contribute to that, then we will create a more wholesome group of people through the scholarship in a way that they would feel they are not second class.”
Help Reach the $1M Goal
Through generous gifts at various levels, together we can make a lasting investment in a generation of theological leaders who will advance the Kingdom, serve their cities, and lead the Church in their contexts.
